This charming woodland native is immediately recognizable once the flowers appear in spring: a tiny greenish purple flower spike (that's Jack) is wrapped around by a conical cup with a flap on top (his pulpit). A long-lasting, up-close plant that adds a tropical flare to the shade garden. Some of the flowers will produce clusters of bright red berries toward the end of summer, even though the rest of the plant has gone dormant.
