Beautiful, blue-green, softly divided leaves have a pungent aroma with strong umami-like overtones but a bitter taste. Clusters of small, dull-yellow flowers in mid-summer attract butterflies; foliage is specific to the larvae of swallowtails. Toxic when eaten though traditionally used medicinally and in Ethiopian cuisine. Handling plants may cause dermatitis.
