With leaves shaped like plump raindrops but striped like mini watermelons, this succulent will capture your heart. Tumbling precariously over the edges of a pot, these are watermelons that need a bit of tender handling. In its native Namibia it grows as a creeping groundcover; indoors in our temperate climates, it’s happier in a hanging basket or planter placed on a shelf.

Tends to prefer slightly more water and shade than other succulents, but with stronger light, the striping shades to purple. Prune regularly, replanting trimmings in the same pot, and be rewarded with a charming curtain of texture and small white flowers that smell like cinnamon. Toxic to humans and pets and sap may cause skin irritation. Curio herreanus aka Senecio herreanus
