Spanish Moss: Wiry whisps in a broadly dense bunch, with a grey-green color reminiscent of the Southwest.
One glance and immediately the mysterious bayous and swamps of the South come to mind – yet this is a plant that can adapt to houseplant status as easily as the other Tillandsia species. A pale silvery white epiphyte that grows on the surface of live oaks, bald cypress and other tropical trees, it absorbs nutrients and moisture through its cascading slender leaves rather than any roots. To imitate its natural habitat, place in a humid spot such as a kitchen or bathroom out of direct sunlight; may be placed outside during the summer but will go dormant when exposed to low temperatures. Looks great combined with other Tillandsia, among potted plants, or hung up on its own. Let go completely dry, then give it a quick dunk or spray – rainwater is best – shake off excess, and return to its display. Tillandsia usneoides
